TT2010 Operation Sabie
The iniciative "Operation Sabie," within the Tchuma Tchato Project, was in Mozambique, Sabie region, Moamba District. Missionary João Rodrigues (Project Director), missionary Clara Collazo (Project Coordinator) and young Tiago Miguel (17), visited the five villages which surround the "Sabie Game Park" reserve. Although the initiative included the prospection and drilling of a borehole to serve the clinic of Baptine, this was not possible due to the current financial instability and the consequent reduction in financial aid from donors in general. Nevertheless we worked to get medicines and other hospital needs, a list which had been presented to us during our previous visit. That effort was a success! That help came from some pharmacies in Barberton and Nelspruit, South Africa, from people who are sensitive to such needs, willing to make a contribution and help us to help others. On May 15, during the "Nurses Day" celebration in Courumane, we handed out the boxes of medicines and a typewriter, to Dr. Filipa Gouge, Head of the Moamba District Health Department. Late April we submited a grant application to IPAD (The Portuguese Institute for Development). The plan is to drill boreholes at Mucacaza, Costine and Mavunguane. Some schools in the area also need revamping and improvement, as well as the teaching of the Portuguese language. |
