TT2009 Operation 4x4

“Operation 4x4,” Tchuma Tchato Project - 2009

The “Aurora Missionary Action — AMA” Association, in partnership with the Christian Movement “The Family International,” is hereby presenting the initiative for the year 2008/2009, within the Tchuma Tchato project – Our Thing – situated at lake Cahora Bassa, Tête province, in Mozambique.

Tchuma Tchato is composed of two villages – Daque and Magoe – with 2500 people. These are communities that do farming and fishing, because of their proximity to this great lake. They also manufacture the canoes with which they fish, and furniture, from the natural resources in the region.

Because of the strong traditions and beliefs, ancestor worship, superstitious approach to the AIDS problem, etc., that has proven to be an obstacle for the development of the area at all levels. We are also confronted with the difficulties of implementing a more permanent work due to the harsh living conditions and accessibility. In short, the area of action is distant, is not equipped with social and economic infra-structures in order to raise interest for settlement of the humanitarian agents, or general development. It is a root project.

Missionary João Rodrigues and other members of the team – with sponsorship from friends and firms who are open to such situations –  were there two times already, bringing humanitarian goods to the people and – not less important – follow-up, training and friendship the good old Portuguese way.

It is our wish to keep the contact and continue developing this project. For that reason we are planning a trip in January 2009. We will be a team of three with the necessary experience on such expeditions and assistance to the needy.

The Association has a base in South Africa – Barberton – and has equipment and some local resources for the implementation of the project. Adding to that we are in contact with companies and individuals, in order to gather the remaining sponsorship in products and donations. The sponsorship will be mainly for the acquiring of a 4x4 vehicle which will provide the logistics we need to get to the region served by this missionary/humanitarian project.
